Starting from a young age, many of us have a fascination with prehistoric dinosaurs, and it is easy for us to imagine what it would be like if they still lived among us. Would we have some of them as pets? Or simple appreciate them from afar like other exotic animals in the wilderness? Over the years, several directors and producers tapped into that fascination and produced many impressive films or television series starring or featuring dinosaur characters. The first-ever animated film to feature dinosaurs was created by cartoonist Windsor McCay in 1914. Gertie the Dinosaur was created as a friendly childlike pet with character and personality This set the precedence for other writers to include prehistoric creatures in modern film.

A lot of us might forget, but Yoshi is actually a dinosaur! Debuting in Super Mario World in 1990, Yoshi is a fan favourite of the Super Mario and Nintendo franchise. Nintendo wanted Yoshi, or another dinosaur character, to be a part of the franchise much before his debut, but the limitations of the consoles' graphics prohibited that. Yoshi debuted on Super NES and was so popular that he appeared in the following games, and is considered one of the main characters of the franchise today.
